INMATE POPULATION JUNE 30, 1962: 8,000

On July 16, 1962 Governor Cecil Farris Bryant appoints Louie L. Wainwright (Superintendent of Avon Park C.I.) as Director of the Division of Corrections. He remains in this position for the next quarter of a century, which will include a total of four agency name changes, and leave this position on December 31, 1986.
